Chemotherapy Round IV (August 15, 2024)

Just wanted to share a quick update on how things went with Ali’s chemotherapy today. It’s been a long one.

We kicked off the day with our first appointment with Dr. Bethany Cones at 1:00 PM. It was our first time meeting her, and she’s focused on helping Ali manage her pain and overall well-being. We spent about an hour with Dr. Cones, and she made some tweaks to Ali’s medications, including adding a stomach motility stimulator to help Ali eat more comfortably. Anything that makes eating easier is a win for us right now.

After that, we headed over to the lab for blood work to check Ali’s cell counts before starting chemotherapy. Thankfully, everything looked decent, so we got the green light to proceed. They also got her port set up.

Next, we met with Dr. Angela Fitzpatrick to finalize the chemotherapy plan for today. There were some minor dosage adjustments based on Ali’s weight, but nothing major. Then, it was off to the infusion center.

This is where things got a little tricky. All the earlier appointments ran longer than expected, so we didn’t get up to the infusion center until well after our scheduled time. They were able to start the chemotherapy, but we had to reschedule the iron infusion since it takes 90 minutes, and the center was about to close. So, we’ll be back at 11:00 AM tomorrow to get that done.

Ali’s chemotherapy wrapped up around 9:00 PM tonight, and they also got her set up with the 46-hour take-home treatment.

We couldn’t have made it through this day without our amazing neighbors: Andy, Brittney, Dawn, Mike, Sloan, and Witten, who picked Liam up from school and organized a pizza-making party for the kids.

Tomorrow’s another grind with the iron infusion, but we’re keeping our heads up and moving forward. Thanks so much for all the love and support, it truly means the world to us.
